Why we don't do Black Friday
A short note on why our pieces are not discounted in flash sales, and what we do instead.
Every November we are asked the same question, and the answer has not changed: we do not discount our pieces, and we do not run a sale.
The reason is arithmetic, not principle. When a saree takes a weaver three weeks, the price on our site is already close to what it costs to make it and pay the person who made it properly. A thirty percent discount does not come out of our margin. It comes out of theirs, next season, when we go back and ask for a lower rate to protect ours. We have decided not to start down that road.
There is also something we dislike about the theatre of it — the countdown clock, the crossed-out price that was never real, the pressure to buy something today that you did not want yesterday. Nothing here is going to stop existing at midnight.
What we do instead: our prices stay the same all year, we tell you honestly when a piece is the last of its kind, and if something does not suit you when it arrives, we will take it back. If you would like to be told when new work comes off the loom, the letter in the footer is the only list we keep.
